The 8 Shields Institute would like to invite you to come celebrate the Solstices and Equinoxes at Little Basin, the site of our last California Art of Mentoring. We will have music, potlucks, nature activities, skill sharing, and opportunities for families and individuals to connect with the land and each other through the 4 seasons. Bring friends and family to this highly affordable event in the beautiful Santa Cruz County redwood forest.
The theme for this gathering is Winter Skills, those activities, skills and processes that are good for building warm connections with people, and occupying your hands while the days are shorter and rainier. People have come forward offering to teach fire skills, knots, tracking, cordage, and circle songs. We hope you also bring your own skills, songs, and activities to share. It is the time of year for gift giving, what are the gifts that you have to offer? Storytelling, knitting and crocheting, basket weaving, music sharing? All are welcome.
We will be camping at Little Basin at Deer Meadow together as a group, just across from the main kitchen area with full access to the kitchen and recreation room. There are showers and restrooms nearby as well. The camp is surrounded by Big Basin State Park, with ample opportunities for wandering and exploration.
Date: Dec 10-11 (Saturday-Sunday)
Arrival & Registration: 11am-1pm Sat*
Departure: 3pm Sun
* You may arrange with Little Basin to arrive early and rent a campsite or cabin.
Food: Lunch Saturday – Bring your own, Dinner Saturday – Potluck; Breakfast Sunday – Pancakes and syrup provided, bring your favorite accoutrements; Lunch Sunday – Bring your own.

Cost: We are offering this program on a sliding scale to make this affordable. Your support is greatly appreciated. Please pay what you can to support our work. If you would like to contribute more than $150 please contact aidan@8shields.org.
