Seeing Through Native Eyes: A Journey of Connection

You Can Develop A Deep And Powerful Connection With Nature

Seeing Through Native Eyes: A Journey of Connection

Reveals How To Reboot Your Personal Operating System &

Play A Significant Role In Repairing Our Culture

“A culture is working when it connects people to people, people to themselves and people to nature”
–Jon Young

ur connecOtions to ourselves, to each other, and especially to nature, have been severed and suppressed by modern life. We’re isolated from each other and from Nature, and as a result, our mental health suffers, our physical health declines, and we leave a wake of destruction in our path as we lumber through life.

Now, Jon Young presents a solution—a way to restore the connections that are so vital to your own health as well as to the future health of the planet where we live.

This solution is built on your personal connection to nature. It starts with a simple reboot of your personal operating system. It starts with “seeing through native eyes.”

Native cultures like the Naro Bushmen of the Kalahari have maintained their connections, and as a result, have much to teach us as we are rediscovering deep connections and relationships to nature and each other.

15 years ago, Jon recorded the original Seeing Through Native Eyes: Understanding the Language of Nature, and it was a wonderful tool that has been used by thousands. But looking back, the original version was a journey of content. It focused on the “hard skills” of primitive technology—survival techniques, tracking, plant use, and identification. These are important, but the nature connection that developed through this process was almost accidental, and often took a long time to happen.

Nature Connection For The Rest Of Us

Instead of being a journey of content, the new Seeing Through Native Eyes: A Journey of Connection is a journey of conduct. It focuses on the “soft skills” of connection, empathy, sharing, listening, quiet mind, and other elements that generate a deep, powerful nature connection quickly and predictably.

This revised program balances the need for physical skills with the need for connection and conduct—it keeps the best of the original program, but reflects the latest research on what actually creates and maintains cultural connections of all types. In addition, there is more wisdom from native elders about the conduct and thinking processes that promote a deep nature connection.

What is “nature connection” and why do I want it?

Nature is the source of something that only it can provide, and current research is proving that this “something” is fundamental to human health, well-being, spirit, and survival. Modern life interferes with our connection to Nature, causing stress, isolation, and various mental disorders such as depression and Nature Deficit Disorder.

When you intentionally reconnect yourself to Nature, you will:

• Awaken your internal world

• Become a “deep listener”

• Remove any fear of the natural world
• Experience enhanced creativity

• Reduce many of the negative effects of ADHD and other disorders

• Eliminate the effects of Nature Deficit Disorder

No Experience Required

If you are new to these concepts, this is the perfect place to start. Seeing Through Native Eyes: A Journey of Connection is a treasure trove of simple, playful actions you can take right now that are almost guaranteed to develop a deep nature connection!

The material is presented around a “medicine wheel”–a teaching tool designed to organize information in a way that is easy to recall and apply. The wheel consists of 8 shields that are positioned according to the points of the compass. Each shield represents several elements: a time of day or season, an attribute, a category of primitive skills, and a mentoring concept.

As you move through the program, you’ll learn that, although it may sound serious, the “disciplined” approach is not the best way to connect with Nature. Just listen to Jon Young and company singing the Coyote Song, and you’ll realize that above all, this Nature Connection thing is supposed to be FUN!

Here are a few examples of what you will learn:

  • How to see yourself as a being capable of being “connected”
  • Why spending time in Nature is as necessary as eating your vegetables
  • How to control the overwhelming amount of information available on the natural world
  • How to calibrate the body for the nature experience
  • If you can only do one thing a day, do this….
  • How our experience in nature transfers to our experience with other relationships
  • What one thing will supercharge your nature connection and build a deep and powerful connection quickly

“…when I listened to it a second time, I realized something: This new version lays a completely new foundation to concepts I thought I knew. Don’t get me wrong, it is designed for people who have never even thought about the medicine wheel, the importance of nature connection, the natural learning cycle, and being a naturalist. But if you do have a foundation in any of these topics, it will add several growth rings that weren’t previously there.Jon was on fire those three days. I’ve now listened to it three times and, just like the original, I pick up more and more each time.To me, this is required listening for anyone, from beginner to seasoned naturalist. I think anyone who listened to the original will absolutely want to pick up the new Seeing Through Native Eyes.”

The time of the lone wolf is past

Are you an experienced naturalist, survivalist, or primitive skills expert? If so, it may be time to reboot your thinking, as well. The days of the lone wolf naturalist who prowls through the woods in a solitary experience are past. Today’s needs are not for more information or solitary experiences, but for more connection. One of the solutions is to share your experience, mentoring others who are behind you on this path.

Mentoring others is a natural part of the journey of connection, and the time has come for all of us to participate in restoring our culture….to start working together, building connections with each other as well as with nature.

As you walk along this path to connection, and as you share this path with others, Seeing Through Native Eyes: A Journey of Connection will give you the tools you need to become a great teacher, a great mentor, a great leader of this movement.

As Dan Corcoran mentioned above, even experienced naturalists will find that this program can “add several growth rings that weren’t previously there.”

Some of the “new growth rings” you can add:

  • How to transition from a super-technical journey to one of deep, body-felt connection and empathy
  • How to build a community or tribe around yourself with little effort
  • How to balance the need for physical skills with the need for connection and conduct
  • Why you shouldn’t assume that everyone needs the same level of “content knowledge”
  • How to apply these principles in any teaching venue
  • How to do nature connection correctly so the information will come along for the ride
  • What to do if the experience seems to become deadened or lose its power
  • What is possible when you become a “connection intersection”–a point where powerful connections intersect to create some amazing results

“I think the remastered STNE is your most powerful work thus far.

I’ve listened to all of Jon Young’s nature connection CD series. Each captivates, engages and begs you to pay attention to the natural world. The remastered Seeing Through Native Eyes, though, is brilliant.

Jon includes the content of the previous series but updates the presentation with new stories and the latest research on cultural connection. The delivery is engaging, heartfelt and compelling. I alternately laughed and cried.

Who can resist the hopeful vision of a regenerative culture connecting each of us to nature, to ourselves and to each other?
Jon’s focused and well organized description of the 8 shields allows the listener to understand the attributes that will allow this cultural model based on the best practices of indigenous cultures to become a reality.
We live in a time when we are overwhelmed with choices. “Reboot (your) operating system”, Jon says, so that we can rediscover the creativity, vision, passion and curiosity that is in all humans.

It’s a message I can’t resist and Jon offers us the tools to make it happen.

Deepest gratitude, Jon, for Seeing Through Native Eyes.”
